[Dixielandjazz] Charlie Hooks

Well, I guess its my turn...................
I may have known Charlie longer than anyone on this list.  We roomed  
together on Pee Wee Hunt's band, back in 1973.  He had just quit his  teaching gig 
and a big university (not music) to go back to being a full time  musician.  
Even though it was a little "fool-hearty," I always respected  him for following 
the career the he REALLY wanted to.  He was 14 years  older than me, but he 
was by far the closest to my age of anyone on the  band.  Some of those guys 
were old enough to be my grandfather, and we had  some good laughs about that.
Even though we didn't see each other much these past few years, I cherished  
his friendship and guidance.  (By phone and Internet.)
I will miss him and I wish the best for Lornetta. I have sent her a  private 
message with my condolences and good wishes.
