[Dixielandjazz] RE: N.O. - fund etc.

The CD of the bands of the listees and also the fundraising concert is a
great idea. If there is someone who organizes it, I'd be happy to
contribute a number or two on behalf of my Bohem Ragtime Jazz Band. I
have been also thinking of collecting money probably at a concert or
other fundraising event but as Berry Zand Scholten pointed out probably
many in Europe would think that there is no need for help as the US is
rich and big and will solve the problem itself. Thus I think it would be
easier to get people involved in the idea here if we name persons
(preferably jazz musicians) who we collect the money for. I suppose that
most of them have lost lots of things and not everything will be covered
by the insurance companies (if the musicians had insurance at all). So
if someone could come up with a list of musicians or a N.O. musicians
trade union or a list of jazz organizations, jazz clubs, record
companies and yes, the great jazz collections (!) that could be aimed.
Yes, of course, we could collect and send money to the Red Cross but, as
I said, if I start anything like this here in Hungary, it would be
easier to name the targeted persons or organizations. For example, Steve
Pistorius was here at our Festival in 1994 (as far as I know, he still
lives down in Metairie) therefore people remember him but have no idea
who, let's say, Pat Cooke is. So if anyone has contact info for Steve
(and news about him) and/or any other musicians, organizations please,
post it on the list. I know, it's difficult as there is no phones, no
Emails, no Internet servers function and everybody stays here and there.
Thanks,

Tamas
