³The Big Broadcast² needs your help. I¹m writing to you, as well as a number
of other traditional jazz leaders and players, in the hope that you¹ll
forward this note to people on your e-mail list. It¹s likely that many of
them are unaware of the show and, with the internet stream and archives,
anyone with a computer and decent connection can listen.

I found out the other day that my archived shows are WFUV's most popular.
That surprised me. And the most recent ratings show Sunday night about the
only place the station has picked up listeners. Memberships are on the rise,
too. All that good news doesn't change the fact that "The Big Broadcast" is
a big exception to WFUV's format, so I have to do that much better just to
stay even. I'm hoping to get something written about the show before long,
and I'm going to be offering my first "Big Broadcast" CD during our next
Membership Drive.

I started ³The Big Broadcast² in January 1973. Each Sunday (8-midnight) I
play jazz and pop recordings from the 1920s and early 1930s. There are
occasional excursions to the teens and ¹40s, as well as contemporary
recordings, but the focus of the show has always been Bix, Louis, Bing, the
Dorseys, plus English and US dance bands. The show is birthday-driven, and
I¹ve had as many as seven songwriters, plus singers and instrumentalists, on
a single program. For October 23 it¹s Fanny Brice, Eddie Lang and the songs
of Sam M. Lewis.

Give ³The Big Broadcast² a listen some Sunday night, but be forewarned we¹re
fundraising on October 30 and November 6. If you¹re in the New York City
area, you can listen at 90.7 FM. Otherwise, go to www.wfuv.org or
www.bigbroadcast.com.

Thanks.
Rich Conaty
