Dear Jim,
That Elvis film, made in Hollywood in 1958, was 'King Creole' set in New
Orleans.
Based on the Harold Robbins novel 'A Stone For Danny Fisher' (set in
Chicago!) about a young nightclub singer trying not to get involved with
local crime boss.
RCA issued an LP album by Elvis, 'King Creole', in Sept 1958, recorded on
15-23 Jan 1958 in Hollywood with:
Elvis Presley - vocal/guitar; Scotty Moore - guitar; Bill Black, Neal
Matthews - bass; D.J. Fontana - drums; Dudley Brooks - piano; Justin Gordon
- sax; Teddy Buckner - trumpet; Mahlon Clark - clarinet; Ray Siegel - tuba;
Elmer Schneider - trombone; Gordon Stoker - bongos; Hoyt Hawkins - cymbals
Vocals: Kitty White and The Jordanaires (Gordon Stoker, Hoyt Hawkins, Neal
Matthews, Hugh Jarrett).
Album titles were:
"King Creole" (Jerry Leiber - Mike Stoller)
"As Long As I Have You" (Ben Weisman - Fred Wise)
"Hard Headed Woman" (Claude Demetrius)
"Trouble" (Jerry Leiber - Mike Stoller)
"Dixieland Rock" (Aaron Schroeder - Rachel Frank)
"Don't Ask Me Why" (Ben Weisman - Fred Wise)
"Lover Doll" (Sid Wayne - Abner Silver)
"Crawfish" (Ben Weisman - Fred Wise)
"Young Dreams" (Aaron Schroeder - Martin Kalmanoff)
"Steadfast Loyal and True" (Jerry Leiber - Mike Stoller)
"New Orleans". Another one! (Sid Tepper - Roy C. Bennett)
As usual, more than you needed to know, but unfortunately not the title(s)
Mr Buckner plays on.
Kind regards,
Bill.
