Hello all
To read Elazar's posting about the Jacob's Ladder Folk Music Festival was
doubly enjoyable - a moment of harmony in a troubled environment and a
reminder of the complex history of this area.
The festival was held "by the shore of the Sea of Galilee north of
Tiberias" and I wonder how many patrons were aware of the significance of
this site.
It's a (figurative) stones throw (or more literally, an arrows shot) from
the battlefield of the Horns of Hattin. It was here, in 1187, that the
Saracen army under Salah ed-Din defeated the French army under Guy de
Lusignan. An event of great significance in the history of European/Middle
East relations.
Ridley Scott's new movie "Kingdom of Heaven" deals with this period of
history.
All the best
Anton
