>Okay Dave. As an alum of Michigan State University, I am happy to talk basketball with you. Or music. I have Mixed loyalties, though. My Dad was a buckeye, My mom a Michigander, and I was born in Illinois's famed City of Broad Shoulders...or is it shouldering broads? Big Ten is I. Hey, I didn't leave out Indiana - my dad's mom was born in Indiana not far from Ft. Wayne, so that takes care of four of the Big Ten connects. Do have a cousin in Iowa, but she is a buckeye transplant. Not close eough for jazz.

But for anyone that wants to know about jazz roots in Indiana, I suggest
that you get ahold of Duncan Schiedt's "The Jazz State of Indiana." The
names that crop up there will make a Hoosier musico burst with pride.
Great read for any student of midwest jazz history.
