Dear Bill:

Thanks for that post. Mary Lou Williams was a genius jazz musician who kept
growing and experimenting during her lifetime. She was a superb pianist and
I was lucky enough to see/hear her several times in NYC . . . once at Monk's
apartment among some other giants.

Not only did she know Dizzy, Bird, Monk & Powell, she mentored them. They
all owed a bit of their musical being to her. She was also a neat lady who
left a model of how to live one's life as well as a vast musical legacy.

PS. Art Blakey, after switching from piano to drums, played in her group and
often mentioned the great influence she had upon him.
