Dear Bill,
Thanks for that post. When growing up in Flushing NY, (NYC) my neighbor and
early mentor was clarinetist Hank D'Amico. He worked with Norvo & Bailey in
the 1930s when they were married and then with Bailey after she left Norvo.
He really dug her as a woman and as a singer. I remember when she passed
away how broken up Hank was.
I never met Mildred Bailey, but listened frequently to her on records at
Hank's house. Also listened to a lot of Norvo there.
Hank was a beautiful man, and a great clarinetist.
