Hello Ken
Unfortunately, I don't have many CD's of contemporary trad. musicians, just a few English bands. There is one band where both the clarinettist and the trombonist use true blue notes on Jelly Roll Morton's "Deadman Blues". The band call themselves the "Frog Island Jazz Band" and the musicians in question are Jim Hurd (clt) and Ray Joughin (tbn).
In the privacy of my own basement where I practice on the trombone, I often play the old standard blues to warm up - Careless Love, Sleepy Time, Canal Street. In addition to "bending" the major thirds and sevenths, I get a blues feeling also by flattening the flatted intervals e.g. by playing a note between Ab and G in the key of F.
Cheers
Bob Smith
