Fred Spencer posed a question which might spark an interesting thread :

"Who turned from jazz to the classics e.g.Mel Powell, Fred Elizalde"

Also Andre Previn, there must be many more. Even I have been known to play a
little Bach, who employed jazz-friendly chord progressions.
