FYI, many of the folks in Tom's group were originally (or early in
their careers) members of the Churchill Street Jazz Band of Palo Alto.
That band was started back in the mid 1970s by Bill Armstrong (banjo)
when he recruited students from Palo Alto High School and taught them
OKOM tunes from the Lu Watters/Turk Murphy book. He also brought in
"adult" players as guests to fill out the band or to replace the
student musicians as the went off to college (or other bands.)
That is how I got started playing OKOM.
and the rest is history ;-)
