ROGER WELLS' DIXIE HOTSHOTS
14 July 2005 - Clevedon Jazz Club
Club night on Thursday 14 July at Clevedon Jazz Club's regular Walton Park Hotel venue features an old Club friend and in fact a Club member who returns once again with his own well established Bristol based band - Roger Wells' Dixie Hotshots.
Roger is a stalwart of the local jazz scene and has played drums with most of the Bristol bands at one time or another. He has also worked with Alan Elsdon, Keith Nichols, Rod Mason, Kenny Ball, Roy Williams and the West Jesmond Rhythm Kings.
Roger originally formed the Dixie Hotshots as the New Orleans Hot Shots in 1999, initially for a short tour of Devon and Cornwall. All the band members were chosen for their ability to play in the 'real' New Orleans style - the success of which comes over in their ensemble work. The tour was so successful with both the audiences and the band that they decided to stay together and have since been in constant demand for club and festival appearances.
The usual line up is Roger himself at the drums with Steve Graham on trumpet, Tom Whittingham on trombone, Martin Butterworth on clarinet, Bill Scott on banjo and Roger White on string bass.
The doors at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Hotel venue open at 8pm, the music starts at 8.30pm and its £6-50 'on the door'. Further details of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events, and Club membership - members get a substantial discount on admission charges! - are available from Trev on 0700 5806 252 or from the Club's web site at http://www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk.
