Dennis Rodman is a former Professional Basketball Star. (Chicago Bulls) He
has a HIGH profile in the USA in both Sports and in the Entertainment world,
being linked to a liaison with Madonna, as well as a brief marriage to
Carmen Electra.
He is the owner a very profitable restaurant in California that uses live
music, and music piped in via radio.
Yesterday, his publicist Shannon Barr told the press that Mr. Rodman has
signed a new agreement with ASCAP. In it, he has also agreed to pay back
licensing fees to 2002. ASCAP had accused him of using copyrighted music
without permission, in his restaurant.
Rodman had said that he was unhappy about ASCAP's rule that commercial
establishments must pay fees for the use of any of its 8 million copyrighted
songs and compositions played live, played on jukeboxes, or piped in from
radio stations. He added: "But hey, what can you do."
Guido rules! :-) VBG.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
PS. Those fees are small in comparison to, say, a performance at the Super
Bowl. $200 a year in Springfield Missouri is very small change compared with
the $25,000 to $50,000 fee they get for a one time" large" audience venue
like the Super Bowl, or the theme song for a TV or radio show.
