Dear John,
Regarding Columbia CL 717 'Garry Moore Presents My Kind Of Music' and your
comment:>It maybe a soundtrack album from the Chicago & All That Jazz show
which appeared a few years ago under Teagarden's name and featured
McPartland, Russell, Freeman, Teagarden, Sullivan, Condon, Haggart and
Krupa. There was a studio recording of the same band and repertoire for
Verve. Both sessions were great with Gene in sparking form.<
Sorry, but not quite.
The Columbia LP (CL 717), using bits (bites?) from Moore TV shows, has the
Percy Faith Orch on most items. I have not checked all the dates, but the
Wild Bill Davison stuff is from July 1955.
I meant to include this info in my original post, but side-tracked myself.
(I'm always doing that!)
The "Chicago & All That Jazz" Verve LP (which I have) was recorded in New
York on 30 & 31 Oct 1961 and features "Selections from the NBC Special
Projects "America's Music" 'Chicago & All That Jazz'. The Verve record
session uses 'The Chicagoans' from the TV show and includes Blossom Seeley
and Lil Armstrong (playing "Original Boogie/Original Rag"). Lil was used in
the 'New Orleans Band' for the TV show.
Kind regards,
Bill.
