[Dixielandjazz] Ellington the hunter?

Here's a question from a friend on Denver's classical music station.  I 
thought the erudite minds on the DJML might be able to shed some light on 
something so arcane:

A member of a French hunting horn club, whose brother lives in Denver, has
come upon a picture of Ellington (c.1934) with 5 hunting horns around his
neck and holding another in his hand.  He wonders if Ellington played the
hunting horn, if he ever wrote for the instrument, and any other info about
the photo you could share.  In the immortal words of Anna Russell, referring
to the preposterous events in Wagner's Ring, "I'm not making this up, you
know."
