I have to confess that while I have heard a lot about Janice Joplin over the 
years & heard a few clips of her singing, I never paid much attention to her 
as I detest  the type of music she sang.

I have heard about her singing with Dick Oxtot, from Bill Maginnis.  Bill 
also told me about Janice auditioning for Turk Murphy.  I believe Turk 
turned her down because he did not want any "stoned out of her mind" Hippies 
singing with his band or hanging around.

I have sent a note to Bill asking for more details.  If he answers, I will 
post here.

Anyway, I am slowly getting to my point.  What a singer!  Really too bad she 
went the way she did.  What a loss!
