[Dixielandjazz] Attracting younger listeners (very long)

Russ,

I agree that John does a wonderful job with the Hot Jazz newsletter. In my opinion it is the best one I've seen currently being done in California. It has a ton of information and I have personally not noticed any errors so he's doing a heck of an editing job as well. I disagree with Steve's "garage band" note and if he were to read Tom Mitchell's jammers' column in the December Monterey Hot Jazz, he would get an appreciation for the fun stuff the Monterey group is doing.

That said, there is a sporadic problem with 404 errors. I've experienced it with different computers, different internet connections, and different times of day. It is not a big deal to me but it is a nuisance on Sunday morning if your foggy brain is trying to remember what time the meeting starts (is it noon? or 1:00?) and the website is the best source.

By the way, as you would expect, I also take extreme exception to your characterization of "windbag". Namecalling is not appropriate and certainly not accurate.

Anyhow, hope to see you soon. Say hi for me to the Mrs.

  John,

I have been watching your work for several years now and I know what a splendid
job you do with the Monterey Hot Jazz Newsletter. It is six pages in length, has
complex graphics and color photos and has to be a labor of love to manage as you
do not receive compensation for this job. . I also know you do a virus check
before sending out the letter and it is "clean" initially.

I am appreciative of your work and can support you 100%. I am quite sure that
those who would criticize your management of the newsletter and web site are
unaware of the many other "electronic" problems this medium presents over which
you have no control.

Additionally, those who would condemn your work don't know you, are windbags in
many cases, and have their own desperate need to sound important. Give them your
job and they would disappear with a few mumbled excuses & nothing would get done.

We love you, John. Please keep up the good work.
