For those interested in learning about jazz, see the below site. It starts
at the beginning and ends with current trends. At the bottom of this first
chapter, see the other chapters. Note especially chapter 3, "Ragtime",
Chapter 4 "Early Jazz" and Chapter 5 "Swing".

Maybe not entirely accurate or complete to your taste, but then it is a
short course and a good start.
