There is a lot of information on "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die  
Rag" (from Country Joe McDonald's point of view) at his website:

I like both versions  - I am a veteran of the Viet Nam war and also  
lived near Bezerkeley, CA in the '60s...
