[Dixielandjazz] gig bags, etc.

Interesting thread, gig bags. I've never, ever owned one. Seems like a
dodgy thing to me, having my slide in this sort of padded bag. Just use the
hard case that comes with the horn. Thank goodness it's not one of the big
square jobbers. My just fits the shape of the horn. Bit heavy to carry,
especially if I've got the collapsable metal horn stand stuck up the bell.
That rings a bell ('scuse the pun!). Security. Think what can be stuck up
the bell of a horn! We had to pass three security points, and open our
cases, etc., before reaching the band stand on the main street of town for
the Royal Wedding a year ago in May. Not one copper looked up the
bell...and, I had this huge long metal bar (which is the trombone stand)
stuck up there. A weapon would easily fit there.
Same thing goes when flying. I stick the case through the scanner, but no
one has ever asked what the big metal bar up the bell is for. I, of course,
am dying for them to aske me so I can take it out & "pluff, plauf,
plop....create a magical trombone stand out of this stupid stick! :>
So there. Another thread: instrument stands. Just think what all the
non-instrument playing DJML's are thinking? "What is he going on about?"
