[Dixielandjazz] C-melody saxes >> C Melody Trumpets

A couple of weeks ago I played a quartet gig with a friend on banjo,  his 
daughter on piano, and his wife on a C-trumpet.  Wasn't a bad sound at  all and 
she could read piano leads/scores directly.  She said her trumpet  teacher 
mentioned that seasoned players had trouble with C-trumpets because they  didn't 
sound right to them.  Probably just because you learn what the open  note 
should sound like and suddenly you're off by two tones.
 
Has anyone else on the mailing list used C-trumpets and have an opinion?
