[Dixielandjazz] Original Dixieland One Step - Racist?

Main Strain (Trio) Portion was written as: "That Teasin Rag" in 1909 by Joe
Jordon, a Black Man. When he heard the ODJB's record of Original Dixieland
One Step a decade later, he sued them and won.

Now here's the rest of the story:

ODJB then took out the offending trio and inserted a new trio, with the same
introduction and same A Strain. It was called Reisenweiser Rag. Went over
like a lead balloon. The new trio just didn't sound like a good piece of
music.

How anyone could make this a racist song is beyond belief.

Joe Jordon became one of the first black millionaires by 1920. Mainly from
Real Estate investments. He was a widely respected musician and composer.
He, in effect wrote the tune, not LaRocca. (Even the intro is rather common
to many songs of that era)

Cheers,
Steve
