While there is a lot of controversy regarding Bix's middle name, the best
source for information seems to be Phil and Linda Evans book "The Leon Bix
Beiderbecke Story". Pages 16 and 17 cover the issue as best as possible
after all these years. Phil and Linda include photocopies of the birth
certificates from the Country Registrar and the Bureau of Vital Statistics.
Bix's brother Charles ("Burnie") was interviewed and he stated that their
father was named "Bismark" and that he insisted that no child was to be
named "Bismark".
'nuff said.
By the way, the "Bix, Man And Legend" book was based upon research done by
Phil Evans.
