Here's an announcement about the passing of Lyle "Spud" Murphy by Dean Mora
who was close to Spud in the last years:

"GODSPEED, SPUD!
We are sad to report the passing of our good friend, the legendary big band
arranger Lyle "Spud" Murphy on Friday, August 5th, just two weeks before his
97th birthday. Spud died at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital due to
complications following surgery."

Spud wrote many arrangements for Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson, and
others.

Dean has scheduled a 97th birthday bash at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City,
near Los Angeles, with his band Mora's Modern Rhythmists and many Murphy
