[Dixielandjazz] Suitcases - Was Washboards & Drums

Here's a thought for those who would replace the drummer with a washboard.

Years ago, Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton had a fairly successful working
relationship. Lionel, originally a drummer, played vibes in Benny's small
groups. But then you knew that.

However, occasionally, when they got bored, Lionel would switch off vibes
and play a battered suitcase, (with drumsticks). Very effective act.

So, if looking to replace the drummer, instead of using a washboard, why not
get your washboarder or drummer to play suitcase? Great possibilities here.

E.G. He/she could tote your bags to all those gigs as well. :-) VBG

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
