They're just waaaaaay more fun to play with in a small ensemble than some 
guy who thinks he's Mr. Big Band pounding and crashing all over the place. 
They're also waaaaaay more fun to hang around with *off* the bandstand.

I can probably think of at least 10 other reasons.
