I get the digest version of DJML so I don't normally
copy the posts I respond to. Anyway-
I just today listened to some bird calls in back yard and
also at the beach in Port Canaveral while RV camping out.
I lo9ve to listen to the "figures" that some of them blow.
Some of them must be "mockingbirds" for I hear an "echo"
copying the figure coming from a distance away. When I hear
these figures I am reminded of JJ Johnson on trombone. He had
a similar "clean sound." Next subject: The gambling machines.
It was posted recently that the machines put out a combined tone
of 'C'. I recall playing a job a few years back on the SunCruz casino
out of Port Canaveral, or was it the "Sterling Casino?", anyway---
I used a "tuning instrument" (my trombone) to determine the key of
the conglomerate sound from the slots; it was 'F' to my recollection.
No big deal. ;) Last but not least: Hoagy!
I was amazed to read on DJML that Hoagy wrote only the music and
not the lyrics for his songs. I can't imagine him writing the beautiful
music for "Stardust" or "New Orleans" without having some lyrics first. Shows how much I know. :D
