A very sad loss - I saw this truly incredible bassist performing several
times with Oscar Peterson and totally agree with Dave's opinion of his
prowess.

Oscar invariably introduced him as "The Great Dane".

Rest in peace Niels-Henning, your place among the jazz immortals is assured.

Dear Listers:

Niels-Henning Oersted Pedersen, one of Denmark's best known jazz musicians,
who performed with legends such as Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy
Gillespie, Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson, has died at age 58.  He was one of
the best string bass players I have ever heard--just unbelievable technique.
