[Dixielandjazz] FH5, More on Disney

There was another "Candy" who played bass and there was some confusion about
it at the time. Russell "Candy" Hall" played with Spike Jones for a time
when my dad was with Spike. A tall, very nice man who played exceptional
string and blow bass. But he was forever being asked to do that "low bass
voice thing," which of course he didn't. But it got to be a joke after
awhile among the band guys who used to tell people that he couldn't do that
any more because spike insisted he wear this certain band uniform that was
too tight and as a result his voice went up two octaves.
He later worked a bit with my dad's Natural Seven and in fact was the bass
player on Tim-tay-shun which also had Jo Stafford on it.
Just adding a bit to the topic for the sheer hell of it.
Let's not forget another great team -- Slim and Slam. Slam (Stewart) was a
superb bassist and of course Slim (Gaillard) was the clown prince of early
pre-bop-gibberish...voot-a-rooney!! (Clark Terry was the inheritor of his
vocalizing fun ala "mumbles.")
