There was nothing corny about the FH5+2.  It would have been corny if they
didn't play well, but they did just that.  What an exciting band!  And, when
the siren kicked in leading into a roaring last chorus....!!!  (Kimball's
foot started the siren.)  I experienced that in a small club in LA, the
Beverly Caverns, and the band filled the room with its sound.

So?  They wore costumes?  The firemen's clothes identified them as being the
Firehouse Five.  No mistaking who they were.  

Entertaining does not necessarily = corny.
Having fun does = entertaining.
The only necessary ingredient is good musicianship, which the FH5+2 had.
