The absolute worst offenders re sound amplification are the supper rooms at
Nevada casinos (ALL of them!)

I have lousy hearing (having been a WWII demolition man with the nickname
"Short Fuse" and having had a short career prizefighting) and therefore have
hearing aids.  In Vegas, Reno and Tahoe casino supper rooms I have replaced
the hearing aids with wads of tissue and STILL experienced pain from the
volume.  Looking around the rooms, many other patrons had their ears cupped
by hands and pained expressions on their faces.  Room managers said they had
no control-- that the "artists" demanded that volume.  And these were not
rock bands.  I now avoid those places like the plague, which saves me a lot
of money, incidentally!
