NEXT CLUB NIGHT 9 September 2004 - SWING FEVER - The UK's premiere 'swing' clarinettist Dave Shepherd and Chris Walker have joined forces to set feet tapping at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Venue on 9 September, with a musical tribute to the many famous 'swing' groups and the great tunes they immortalised.
Voted top UK clarinet player in the 1990, 1991, 1995 & 2000 British Jazz Polls, Dave Shepherd has fronted his own internationally acclaimed Dave Shepherd Quintet as well as being an integral part of the Great British Jazz Band and the Jazz Superkings. During his long career Dave has toured the UK and throughout the world with the likes of Freddy Randell, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Teddy Wilson, Stan Getz and Billy Holiday.
When the need arises for something really special, Dave Shepherd joins the internationally known Chris Walker Swingtet to create 'Swing Fever' in a feast of clarinet playing that all can enjoy.
Chris Walker, who formed his first 'Quintet' in 1987, is an old friend of Clevedon Jazz Club. In 1999 the band became 'The Chris Walker Swingtet' but continued the tradition of playing great music from the jazz era of the 1920's to the small group swing tunes associated with the mid twentieth century. They are equally at home on Cruise liners as they are appearing in their own right, or, as on this occasion, backing the top jazz stars, in Clubs and Festivals throughout the UK. The popularity of the band is primarily due to having a 'sound' that is placed firmly in the 'middle ground' that is neither 'Traditional' or 'Modern. Put simply it is their ability to play popular, melodic tunes that are all time favourites.
Chris is also well known and respected as a jazz broadcaster and journalist. He produces and presents his own weekly radio programmes on BBC local radio stations in the Solent area.
The doors open at 8pm, the music starts at 8.30pm and its £8 'on the door' - Club Members get substantial discounts on admission charges. Further details of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events, are available from Trev on 01275 343210 or from the Club's web site at www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk.
