In the early sixties a friend of mine and I used to go to a restaurant in West Covina, California, and listen to Teddy Buckner and his band. I had a gorgeous triple gold plated Besson cornet that Teddy would play...he wanted to buy it from me, but I wanted to trade it for his Selmer cornet. A couple of time he almost did! What a great player!
Well, on Ebay, I just purchased a Benge cornet, that belonged to him, along with three LP's of his band, two mutes, and some of his business cards. The cornet will need some work ironing out the bell, but other than that, it seems to be in very good condition. The silver plating is still very good.
Just one more horn that I don't need, but I couldn't resist it at $501...it was put on consignment by Teddy's family.
I understand he was in the movie, "The Five Penny's", along with Satchmo.
Makes me remember the time Max Kaminski's Conn cornet came up on Ebay, and our good friend Tony Davis grabbed it!
Warm regards,
