Leslie -- you have just proved again that the small world syndrome remains
a given. Your mention of Max Morath is a pair of words I relate to, very
easily. Have been in contact with Max this year several times, as he and I
are Colorado College Beta house frat brothers and worked a bit together in
Colorado Springs in the '50-51 period. (We were both so youong and good
looking...but what happened over time?) Dan Spinks, also a big Max fan and
friend, got us back together after a few years of being out of contact. I
hope to see him in Duluth this late summer-early fall period if all works
out. I will be there for a writer's conference, and Max's wife teaches at
the U of MN campus there.
Max is an amazing entertainer, not to mention very fine pianist and a good
arranger. I recommend his
Jonah Man CD, a salute to the music of Bert Williams, with great Morath
vocals and a wonderful batch of good players backing him up in his tasty
arrangements. A romping joy to hear.
So -- once again "Small World" strikes again!

Dear Harold:

THANK YOU! You're absolutely right about the tune--it WAS "I Didn't Know the
Gun Was Loaded." Now it's all coming back to me, but I never would have
remembered it without your help. And I had forgotten all about the Mariners.
My
mother listened to Godfrey's radio show faithfully for years, including when
Max
Morath was on the show. (Doesn't Max have a fabulous voice for radio?) Who
knew
at that time that Max would become a family friend after I started the RAG?
What a bonus! And what a small world it is after all.
