Also on Godfrey was monumental clarinetist Johnny Mince.  In 1948 - 50 I
was assigned to the radio shop of the 3499th Mobile Training Group at
Chanute Field, Illinois, and my days began by boarding whichever of the
group's six C-47s or three B-25s that were at home and checking their
radios.

Now each of these planes had an AN/ARN-7 radio compass and when I
finished my work all the directional loops were aimed at Chicago and the
receivers were all tuned to WBBM. Oddly enough, the radio checks were
completed at just about the time the Godfrey show ended.
