This might not be verbatim exact, but it's, er, close enough for jazz. If
this isn't right, it will have to do, until the real thing comes along.
When the music starts
put the tailgate down
let the band parade
all around the town
Give the trombone man
room to move his slide
as they swing and play
'round the countryside.
Wasn't long ago
I was in my teens
and they played that way
down in New Orleans.
On Wingy Manone's record, Capitol, I think, he added "..., boy," after
"ago." Sharkey used to sing it when I was in my teens. And that WAS long
ago, boy.
