Can anybody tell: When was the title "Makin' (or Making) Runs" first used? I can not find the title in the Bolden literature.

Bunk's whistled version from June 1942 was called "Buddy Bolden's Style", and on the Gonsoulin records from 1943 it is part of "Bolden Medley". Humphrey Lyttelton & Russel Davies call it "Bunk Remembers" on their Bolden LP. I have also seen the titles "Bolden Cakewalk" and "Zulu's Day".

The first recording I have seen with the title "Making Runs" is from 1970 with Mike Casimir's New Iberia Stompers. The title has been used by a.o. Chris Tyle's Silver Leaf Band and Louisiana Shakers from Melbourne. Our band recorded it last year on our CD "Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Play" (see our web site).
Cheers
