Dear Steve,
You will be pleased to hear that the George Brunies' yelled comment behind
Louis' "I'll Be Glad When You're Dead" vocal is intact on the Jazzology
Vol 3 JCD-1030 reissue of the Rudi Blesh "This Is Jazz" series broadcast on
26 April 1947 (not 1949 - sorry).
Regarding the use of the word "boy" in those days.
Oz veteran Graeme Bell's younger brother Roger has called everyone "boy" in
the almost 60 years I have known him.
He caused some consternation however, in mid 1949, when he first met Rex
Stewart, here to tour with the Bell band.
Rex was visibly taken aback when Roger first called him boy, until he
realised that it was affectionate and in no way racist.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
