Dear friends,
(If you are sick of this subject, delete now.)
At the risk of reopening this thread to more lengthy general discussion, I
advise that, further to its authorship, I have just checked the composer
credit for "WAWW" on the original ABC LP.
My copy is the UK release ABCL 5002 (subtitled ABCS 650, which was the USA
catalogue number).
The UK LP credits (Weiss-Douglas) for "WAWW"!
No mention of Bob Thiele.
Was his ABC boss, Larry Newton, being spiteful by not giving Mr Thiele due
credit?
Another interesting fact is that "Douglas' is also given co-composer credit
on the label for the following songs on the ABC LP:
"The Home Fire" (Weiss-Douglas)
"Give Me Your Kisses (I'll Give You My Heart)" (Whitcup-Douglas)
"The Sunshine of Love" (Whitcup-Glerlach-Douglas)
"Fantastic That's You" (Cates-Douglas-Greene)
However, Thiele does get co-credit with George David Weiss for "Hello
Brother".
Who was 'Douglas'? He is not mentioned in Bob Thiele's book.
Or anywhere else that I can find.
I then checked the Bluebird CD released in 1994 which has both versions
already referred to by Steve Barbone.
The 1967 recording has (G Weiss-B Thiele) and 1970 follow-up has (GD Weiss-B
Thiele).
I hate inconsistencies, but we have been through this before. Record
labels/covers do no always provide the legitimate copyright owners of a
song.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
