I disagree with you about the Blind Willie Dunn session of 30 April 1929.
For me it is not Tommy Dorsey but King Oliver.
When you listen to this two tracks and compare them with the four tracks of
Tommy Dorsey from 10 Nov 1928 and 23 April 1929
first it is clear as glass to me that it is not the same trumpet player
second the trumpet player on the BWD session is Oliver.
Moreover there are the two tracks Clarence Williams And His Novelty Four
from November 23, 1928 (In The Bottle Blues and What You Want Me To Do).
I have all the 8 tracks on CD remastered by John R.T. Davies, so there are
no problems in sound quality.
All the 8 tracks have about the same line up, you can compare them well.

On page 118 and 119 of the book King Oliver by Walt Allen (revised by
Laurie Wright) the story about the suggestion of Tommy Dorsey is written.
But I guess when the suggestion was made only the 78th were listened and
what was the quality of that discs?
From the book: "However, the trumpet range heard here is greater than that
employed by Oliver and the vibrato is found on no authenticated Oliver
recording".
Well if it is an other trumpet player than Oliver, he copies the timing and
sound of Oliver so good that it must be his twin brother (but that one I
never met).
