[Dixielandjazz] Who should inherit our treasures?

This is a problem which bothers most jazz musicians who during the course of
their lives amass a large quantity of musical material of one kind or
another. When I broke up my big band some time ago I was left with several
hundred charts which were mouldering away in my garage, then I discovered
that the school one of my grandsons attended ran several band programs but
were having difficulty finding the money to purchase music which, as we all
know, can be very expensive.
It was a bit of a wrench to part with it all, but one morning I loaded the
whole lot into my car, drove to the school and gave it to the musical
director. The look on his face and his tears of joy were reward enough for
me - little Patrick now tells me that the schoolkids are falling over
themselves to get into the school's big band class.
With luck I might have introduced them to something which will develop into
a lifelong passion.
