Didn't some Wingy Manone recordings have the trumpet section doing
transcriptions of Louis Armstrong scores? Big Butter and Egg Man comes
to mind.

Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Scored Solos

I can recall two scored solos for big band:

1: The Berigan solo on "Marie" has been scored for 4 or 5 trumpets, and
has been played by the Tommy Dorsey "ghost" bands. Heard it about 15-20
years ago at a dance in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

2: A 1948 Woody Herman Orchestra recording on Columbia, "I've Got News
For You", has the whole sax section playing one of the Charley Parker
solos for one chorus. Very well-played, and exciting.

regards, Harold Smith
