I consider myself a professional musician. I worked for IBM for 31 years 
which took priority over my music endeavors but now that I am retired music is the 
main focus of my activities.

I lead three musical groups:

The Joe Hopkins Quartet which plays a couple of times a week...Gary Church 
plays piano in the quartet (Gary is very well known to many on this list). We 
play new orleans/swing style jazz.

The 52nd Street Band ( 7 pieces)which plays New York style classic jazz (as 
does Barbone)..Gary Church plays cornet in that group. Bob Wardlaw often joins 
us on bass sax. 

I also have a New Orleans style trad band that I book from time to time.

I addition I have been the clarinet player for the Desert City Six for the 
last 13 years.

In my view anyone who plays music for money is a professional musician.
