Hello all

I echo Bill Haesler's congratulations to Dave Richoux and his determination
with this issue. Well done, Dave; very well done, indeed. Many thanks.

Dave's work led me to follow-up on the "tromba marina" and wonder why a
bowed single string instrument is called a "marine trumpet". From Grove I
discovered that the "trumpet" part comes from the fact that the vibrating
bridge produces a tone not unlike that of the natural trumpets of the 15th
and 16th centuries. But why "marine"? No one knows. It certainly has
nothing to do with the sea or ships.

It's a cliché, but I have to say it - is this a good list, or is this a
good list?

All the best
Anton
