Congratulations on your persistence
We have now established (confirmed by listening to the Alfred Elkin's 1940s
records) that:
 vocal bass is just that. A voice imitating a string bass.
 imitation bass is a home made, single string skiffle type contraption.
 bass cano is a single string instrument.
