Wally Rose recorded Black and White Rag while in the YBJB. Lu Watters
insisted to the record producer that it be recorded. Wally told me that
because of that recording, there were many re-orders of that album. I read
in a history of Ragtime book, that it was that recording that re-kindled the
ragtime revolution in the late '30's, early '40's.
Wally Rose sat in with Cell Block 7 three times at our regular gig in Lodi
in the mid-nineties. He would spend the night, and I would take him back to
Walnut Creek, buy him lunch, and listen to his many great stories about Lu
Watters. At this time, he was beginning to fail quite noticeably...he played
a Ragtime Festival in Fresno about this time, and forgot completely about a
set he was scheduled to play.
