January is the month when most of the JCJB members take their vacations. Jim
Cullum will once again be traveling in Australia this month with cornetist
Bob Barnard. The Landing in San Antonio presents a special group of
outstanding jazz artists who will give you the steam heat to melt those
winter blues away. Join us! Reservations are not needed except on weekend
nights; call Susie at 210-325-2495.

a.. Former JCJB pianist and arranger John Sheridan returns to the Landing
from January 13th through 24th.

A native of Columbus, OH, Sheridan served as pianist and principal
arranger for the JCJB from 1979 through 2002, and wrote over 1,000
arrangements for the ensemble. As an arranger, Sheridan was responsible for
the JCJB albums Porgy and Bess, 'Tis The Season To Be Jammin', and much of
the material heard on Hooray For Hoagy, Super Satch, Shootin' The Agate, as
well as most of the arrangements for the Riverwalk radio series.

John is currently pursuing a freelance career and was very busy last year
with a full schedule of national and international jazz festivals, club
engagements, and recording projects.

Last October, John toured Germany and Switzerland with the George Masso
All-Stars and played a week-long engagement at Jazz Land in Vienna. He
appeared at the 92nd St. Y in New York with Dick Hyman and Derek Smith and
collaborated with singer Banu Gibson and author Philip Furia on a concert of
Hoagy Carmichael music. His latest CD, For Lovers Only with pianist Jeff
Barnhart and singer Rebecca Kilgore, will be released later this year.

b.. The red-hot young jazz trumpet player Duke Heitger will be featured at
the Landing January 9, 10, 12, 22-28.
Since his move to New Orleans, Duke's travels have taken him to Europe
many times including tours of Hungary, Switzerland, France, Norway and
Germany. He was featured in "Tornado of Trumpets" with Dick Hyman in New
York City's 92nd St. Y Jazz in July series.

Other credits include appearances on A Prairie Home Companion with Butch
Thompson and numerous performances with the JCJB at the Landing as well as
with James Dapogny's band. He joined Banu Gibson's Hot Jazz in 1993 and
currently is still a member.

Duke's exposure to the masses is attributed to the success of the Squirrel
Nut Zippers Hot recording in which he is featured. That CD sold over one
million copies, earning him a platinum record.

Duke currently leads his band in New Orleans and can be heard daily on the
steamer Natchez.

c.. Also appearing at the Landing in January are former JCJB trombonist
Mike Pittsley and drummer Ed Torres, as well as current bassist Don Mopsick.

d.. The Jim Cullum Jazz Band resumes its regular Landing schedule, Monday
through Saturday, on January 30th. For more details, call 210-325-2495.
