The soirees sound great. I don't think anyone knows how to make
Manhattans on this side of the Pacific.
Reminds me of the trip to the Sacramento Jubilee in 1982 with "The
Australians" Jazz Band put together to take Ade Monsbourgh to the
States. On the long flight, Ron Halstead who travelled with us
recommended a Manhattan or two to help pass the time - he was a truly
seasoned traveller and former DJMLler. Maurie Dann (banjo), Ron and a
few of us went past the third Manhattan. The very kind staff kept mixing
them for us until they ran out of some of the ingredients. We ran into
one of the stewards in San Francisco the next day and he said that the
airline had made a note of the matter. Sure enough, on the trip back to
OZ, only pre-mixed cans of Manhattan were available. Not the same but,
at least they didn't run out.
best regards
