"Oliver King" is one of the nicest of jazz pseudonyms and people might be
interested to know that it was used for many years by none other than the
acclaimed jazz discography, Brian Rust.
Rust wrote jazz reviews for the English magazine "Gramophone" from (I'm not
sure of the date) the mid 50s and was identified as Oliver King. As the
editor wrote, on welcoming him to the reviewing panel, he was OK!
The reason for the use of a pseudonym was (I think) that Rust worked for
the BBC and the corporation had "views" on the matter of staff writing for
outside bodies.
