Perhaps they named it the state song in 1922, knowing that Hoagy would write
it in 1930?!! :-)

Really???
I suggest that it should be 1932 as it was not written/copyrighted (Hoagy
Carmichael, music-Stuart Gorrell, lyrics) until 1930.
A  Google search will probably pinpoint when it was adopted as the 'state
song".
